Foundation Studies (Art and Design)

Introduction to the Course
Our foundation studies course is about discovering who you are as an artist or designer. Your talents and skills are nurtured throughout the course by our team of experienced staff, whose sole purpose is to motivate you to achieve your
creative potential.

Foundation Studies

Designed as the principal gateway into higher education in art and design, the practical learning, directed study and one to one mentor support, will help build your confidence and understanding of your own capabilities so that you can progress onto your degree course knowing that you’ve chosen the best pathway for you.

Your Learning Experience
All our staff are practising artists or designers and with their expert guidance, you’ll experiment with a wide range of disciplines including fine art, IT, visual communication, lens based media, three dimensional design, fashion and textiles.

Foundation Studies

There are plenty of opportunities to find inspiration, particularly with study visits
overseas and at home where you are able to view the work of a wide range of professionals. Learning focuses on projects and assignments which is supported by research, art and design history and self directed study. Our team of student mentors will provide personal support along the way, working alongside the academic staff to assist you in your transition from further education to higher
education and ultimately launch you into a rewarding career as a creative professional.

Career Prospects
Most students completing the course go on to study on a range of higher education courses in art and design, while some progress directly on to work in the art and design industries. If you successfully complete the course you have
the right to progress directly to an appropriate HND or undergraduate course within the Faculty.
