In this fourth display, Nick Jones, Technical Tutor in the Department of Art, has created a montage. It is based on photographs taken during the renovation of the School of Art building.
The Birmingham School of Art building in Margaret Street was opened in 1884. The building was sponsored by the City and was designed by John Chamberlain in an elaborate Venetian Gothic style. The internal and external decoration reflects John Ruskin’s ideas on the variety of nature as the fount of all art. It is now a Grade I Listed Building.
